Event-Misc* | 4 September 1900 | "RUN OVER BY A WAGON. Ulysses S. G. Pope Fatally Injured While Riding a Bicycle in Philadelphia. Ulysses S. G. Pope, formerly of Doylestown, but for some time having resided in Philadelphia, was run down by a milk wagon while riding a bicycle at Forty-eighth and Market streets on Monday, and so badly injured that he afterward died at he Presbyterian Hospital. His head and face were badly injured and his ribs were broken, penetrating his kidneys. Pope was thirty years of age and married to Miss Mary Rorer, daughter of Edward Rorer, of Doylestown, and had two children. He is survived by his parents Mr. and Mrs. William Pope and two sisters, Miss Mary Pope of Doylestown; Miss Ida Pope of Philadelphia."6 |
Inquest | 5 September 1900 | "The evidence at the Coroner's Inquest yesterday showed that Ulysses S. G. Pope, aged 31, of 27 North Frazier street, who was run over and killed by a wagon while riding a bicycle at Forty-eighth and Market streets on Tuesday, was to blame for his own death, and George Hedrick, a Delaware County farmer, who was charged with being responsible for the fatality, was exonerated by the jury. It was testified that Pope was on the wrong side of the street and that he was coasting when the wagon struck him."4 |

Funeral services on Saturday afternoon at 2 o'clock, at his late residence, No. 27 North Frazier street ( between Fifty-sixth and Fifty-seventh streets, above Market street.) Lodges of which he was a member are invited. Interment at Arlington Cemetery."5 |
